Amazon Ireland will debut under the domain Amazon.ie. While we await the announcement of a specific launch date, it has been confirmed that the platform will go live in 2025. Interestingly, launching the marketplace is not Amazon’s first venture into the Irish market, but more on that later in the article. We invite you to read on!
Amazon’s first steps in Ireland
Amazon entered Ireland in 2004 by opening its first Irish office. Two years later, in 2006, it launched a Customer Service Centre in Cork.
Additionally, in 2022, the American giant established an Amazon Fulfillment Center located at Unit E, Baldonnell Business Park, Baldonnell, Co. Dublin, D22 V5R3, Ireland. This center spans over 50,000 square meters.
To date, Amazon has contributed to the creation of over 6,000 jobs in Ireland.
Selling on Amazon.ie – New opportunities for local businesses in Ireland
Until now, Irish entrepreneurs had to sell via Amazon.co.uk or other international versions of the platform. With the launch of Amazon.ie, they will be able to list their products on a dedicated Irish platform.
Interestingly, although the Amazon Ireland marketplace platform is yet to debut, as we can read on Aboutamazon.eu:
Over 1,000 small and medium-sized Irish businesses are already selling on Amazon, and in 2022 alone, they generated over €150 million in export sales.
However, the launch of Amazon.ie will open up new opportunities for local businesses in Ireland.
Amazon.ie and logistics – Partnership with An Post
Amazon has partnered with An Post, Ireland’s postal service, signing a five-year agreement. This partnership will leverage An Post’s infrastructure and expertise to handle deliveries for Irish customers.
How to prepare for sales on Amazon Ireland?
While the launch of Amazon’s marketplace in Ireland brings new opportunities for sellers aiming to reach Irish customers, it also introduces new responsibilities. If you plan to sell on Amazon Ireland, consider the following obligations:
- VAT registration in Ireland
- Choosing a sales model – FBA or FBM – which will determine logistics costs and responsibilities
- Accounting for sales made through the platform
- Invoicing – either manually or through automated systems
VAT registration should be a priority, as selling on Amazon.ie without it may be impossible. Amazon requires VAT numbers from businesses selling on its marketplace platforms in different countries.
Additionally, if this is your first international expansion, ensure your product listings are adapted to the Irish audience, including translation and customer support.

Schedule a consultationSales on Amazon Ireland, VAT registration, and warehousing
If an entrepreneur outside Ireland plans to store goods in Irish warehouses, VAT registration in Ireland is essential. Amazon verifies VAT numbers for sellers storing and selling products in its Irish Fulfillment Centers. Sellers must document the movement of goods to the Irish warehouse. For goods sent from another EU country, such as Poland, this must be declared as an intra-community movement (non-transactional intra-community supply in the origin country and intra-community acquisition in the destination country).
One exception to VAT registration is consignment stock arrangements, about which you can read more here – What is a consignment warehouse?. More details on obligations related to warehousing in other EU countries or the UK can be found in our article on Storage of goods in the EU and the UK, and VAT.
Sales models on Amazon Ireland
The choice of sales model significantly impacts operations on Amazon:
- Fulfillment by Merchant (FBM): Sellers manage all logistics, including packing, shipping, and returns. Learn more in our article – What is the FBM Amazon sales model?.
- Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA): Sellers use Amazon’s warehouses, delegating logistics to the platform. Learn more about the FBA model in our dedicated article – What is the FBA sales model on Amazon?.
The chosen sales model will influence VAT accounting and declarations.
Selling from Irish territory on Amazon.ie
Products stored and sold in Ireland to both private customers (B2C) and businesses (B2B) are subject to Irish VAT rates about which you can read more here – VAT Ireland 2024. Sales must be reported in local VAT declarations, requiring an Irish VAT number.
For B2B sales, goods sent from Ireland to other EU countries can qualify for a 0% VAT rate, provided both parties are VAT-registered and documentation requirements are met. For example, an IE-599 electronic document can serve as proof of export.
Selling on Amazon.ie with warehousing in another EU country
If goods are stored in another EU country and shipped to Irish customers, sellers must be aware of the €10,000 EU distance selling threshold. Below this limit, sales are treated as domestic and taxed according to the seller’s home country VAT rate. Exceeding the threshold requires VAT registration in the destination country or the use of the VAT OSS (One-Stop Shop) system for consolidated reporting.
VAT OSS does not apply to local sales or goods stored in foreign warehouses. More on this in our article about VAT OSS – What is VAT OSS?.
Invoicing on Amazon
Sellers on Amazon.ie must issue VAT-compliant invoices for sales in Ireland. This can be done manually or automated through systems like Amazon Automated Invoicing.
